PrEP

PrEP is an acronym that stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis. It involves HIV negative people taking antiretroviral drugs to protect them and prevent HIV infection – just one tablet a day.

There are 4 steps in HÉROS to get PrEP

Step one:
Consultation

01. Understand why you want to take it
02. Older than 18 years old
03. Have had sex in the past six months
04. No HIV infection and acute infection symptoms

​

Step two:
Risk behavior assessment

01. There was no sexual intercourse in the past six months
02. Have had sexually transmitted diseases in the past six months
03. Partner is HIV infected
04. Use of recreational drugs when having sex
05. Two or more non-professional post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) has been used in the past year
06. Sex workers
07. Multiple sexual partners and no use of condoms
08. Shared needles/injections with others in the past six months

Step 3:
Open laboratory inspection

01.HIV Screening
02. Urine routine examination
03.B, C hepatitis examination
04. Syphilis inspection
05. Pregnancy test (for women only)

Step 4:
Assessment of medication compliance and administration of drugs for side effects
